- Eggshells
- Demineralized water
- White vinegar
Step 1
Wash eggshells well. They may be white or brown.
Step 2
Soak them in a container with equal parts water and white vinegar. This process will loosen the inner membrane of the shell, taking around 20 minutes.
Step 3
Remove membranes and rinse shells to remove vinegar residue.
Step 4
Place the shells in the blender container and add 5 tablespoons of distilled water per full shell.
Step 5
Blend this mixture with the blender for about 5 minutes on medium speed. The consistency should be similar to yoghurt. Add more distilled water if necessary.
Step 6
Use a pestle and glass plate to ensure that the sandy texture disappears, for best results.
Step 7
Filter this mixture and leave to dry on coffee filters.
Step 8
When the paste is completely dry, grind with a mortar and pestle to a fine powder.
Step 9
Store in a jar in a cool, dry place.
PLEASE NOTE:
If calcium carbonate is used to manufacture lacquered pigments, it is important to bear in mind that the color of the eggshells used may slightly influence the final shade of the pigments obtained.
Eggshell is 94% calcium carbonate, so you can use it in the same proportions in the recipes I've given you.
