The organic artist: make your own paint, paper, pigments, prints and more from nature /Anglais

This book has been translated into French under the title Drawing from nature to make your art material, but it is very difficult to find, new or second-hand (at least at the time of writing). The original English version is easier to obtain, but requires a little mastery of the language of Shakespeare.

For me, it’s a real reference for anyone who wants to create their art material from nature. You learn how to make your own pigments, inks, brushes and papers, but also how to explore simple techniques to transform natural elements into artistic tools. The experience reminded me of my childhood, when I discovered the book Copains des bois (this may speak to some of you): we experiment, we test, we learn to adapt to what nature offers us.

This book is inspiring: it shows that, even today, when everything is easy to buy in stores, it is possible to go back to the basics of art, to rediscover the pleasure of creating with your hands and, in the process, to better understand how works were designed at a time when not everything was so accessible. For me, understanding how each tool or pigment is made has completely changed the way I approach a work.

In short, this book is about becoming a child again, enjoying time, learning to do it yourself and reconnecting with true creativity.
